Gigabit network backbone
solution
Figure 1 illustrates a gigabit backbone solution
using the Alcatel OmniStack, OmniSwitch 7700,
and Omni Switch/Router. Inside the wiring
closets, user PCs and IP phones are connected to
the dual-unit OmniStacks for each department.
Autosensing ports accommodate PCs with older
10BaseT ethernet or more current 100BaseTX
Fast ethernet network interface cards. Each
OmniStack 6124 or 6148 provides gigabit
backbone uplinks to the core. The OmniStack
8008 gigabit concentrator acts as an aggregation
point for connecting server backplanes and
connecting into the enterprise backbone.
QoS solution
Figure 2 shows how the Alcatel QoS solution
typically supports converged data and voice
network applications. PCs and Alcatel IP phones
are connected to the OmniStack 6124 at the edge
of the network where packets are switched at
wire speed to OmniPCX 4400 Voice
Communication System services. The
OmniStack 6124 supports 802.1p and DSCP
(DiffServe Code Point) to CoS classification for
real-time applications.
